This is where I take a look at one of the many albums that helped to shape a generation of metalheads into the proud army of rockers we are today.

I was just reading recently about how Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith had just re-joined Iron Maiden- very welcome news to me. And usually when I decide to review something, I'm listening to it as I'm reviewing it. Kinda makes things a little more interesting when you're just freeflowin' it..pretty much the only way I review anything musical..anyways, what was I talkin' about? Oh yeah..Maiden..I was trying to decide what album to review for this part, and I thought- How about one of the albums that made me a metalhead in the first place? So here I am about to tell you about one of the greatest albums ever released in the pivotal year of 1984. I'm talking about Iron Maiden's magnificent opus..you know the one..Powerslave.

If you've never heard the legendary Maiden (and I know some of you haven't) then this is an excellent starting point. I know- most people will point to Number Of The Beast as their crowning moment, others might pick Piece Of Mind..all good choices in their own right. But they don't quite compare to Powerslave. From the opening chords of their classic Aces High, through Two Minutes To Midnight (an absolute classic), all the way to the ending of their 16-plus-minute epic Rime Of The Ancient Mariner(the song's almost as long as the poem itself..and just as good), this album never lets up. It grabs your attention and keeps it. The twin-guitar attack of Adrian Smith and Dave Murray draw you in with their melodic yet powerful riffs, Steve Harris and his magical fingers pound out some bass runs equalled by few, Nicko McBrain gets you movin' with his steady thunder behind the drums.. and then there's Bruce. The Air Raid Siren himself. No doubt about it, folks- Bruce Dickinson is one of the greatest heavy metal vocalists this world has ever seen. Period.

Bottom line, folks- there is not one weak track to be found anywhere on this album. It is a true classic that will stand the test of time. With all the bands out there today trying to make a name for themselves as the next flavor-of-the-month act, this is an album that,10 years from now, will still be inspiring young musicians to turn things up a notch, and will have us saying " Now this is from the days when music meant something. " There is no other grade this album can receive than the hallowed A+. No metalhead or aspiring metalhead should be without Powerslave.
